Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

This one wanted to be a bit wild. Of its own mind. Avant-garde. I thought that was a lovely idea. So, I placed juniper, box elder samaras, and wild hops around the grapevine wreath loosely, letting them wander a bit. Letting them discover their way. Hung by the weathered broom near the front door, the wreath became a fitting welcome, a fitting note for the midwinter season: Here, you’ll not find perfection, but you will find beauty.

December, ever full, let me be just as avant-garde with all the season’s decorating. Nothing about it happened in one predictable or ordered fell swoop. Instead, it became what it is over time, over weekend days and weekday afternoons, interspersed with the rest of life in a full household. I discovered how much I liked that. How much a single small tree inside, and a wreath near the door outside, decorated with elements foraged from the wild, fit so well the simplicity necessary this time of year. How just a few baked favorites from kitchen are just right. How a few gifts under the tree, followed by an experience for several days after, is our favorite way to give and to receive.

This is our quiet way, a December holiday season that has preparation, thought, and care, but also peace.

Loves, I’m wishing you all a blessed holiday. Thank you for coming here, for reading, for commenting, for sharing in our journey with us. You are loved.

I’ll be away from this space for a while, soaking up all the men in my life and running, hiking, and skiing with Nellie Belle.

Merry Christmas
