On Substack

It was last December that I received an email from a longtime reader with a single word written in the subject line: Substack?? I’d heard of this newer online space, but was largely unfamiliar with it. My reader’s kind nudge in her short email prompted me to explore. (Thank you, Christine!) I was soon to discover a very beautiful thing.

A few years ago, three brilliant minds created a platform called Substack with the idea of providing a place online that was built on community and trust, where writers could write and readers could read, investing time and resources in each other. The more I learned about Substack, the more I found that it aligned keenly with my own vision and values for my creative work and life. It’s a quiet place, free from advertising and sponsored content, where deep connection and relationships can be fostered. And, with the ability to support not only writing, but video and audio content as well, it provides a writer/reader experience unlike any other. Some compare the feeling of it to the early, golden days of blogging, only better.

I was intrigued. Here was a place where I could connect more closely with my followers, expand my creative work, reach new people, and be supported, all in a way that felt authentic to me. So, loves, I’m thrilled to say, over the last several months, I’ve been building a new place for us over on Substack. We’ll soon be moving in.

Let me describe what to expect over there. The quiet aesthetic that you’ve known in my work will continue. You’ll find a weekly essay with photos (including the Monthly Letter), as you always have. But, if you choose (I hope you will!), there’ll be more to enjoy. For a small subscriber’s fee, you’ll have the opportunity to join my community (and its conversations), read additional weekly content, and have access to all virtual events and audio and video content. This inner subscriber’s circle is where relationship will happen, where regular virtual events will be, and where, when the time is right, Living Well will be born.

The future months will be brimming with good things, and, because I know the amount of time and effort it takes to produce ongoing, meaningful content like this, I must make sure to care for myself as well. Because creativity needs room to rest, beginning in 2024, I’ll be taking scheduled time away from my online work twice yearly, for the months of January and July.

Loves, I’m excited. I’m looking forward to writing for you, creating for you, and investing in you.

I’ll see you over on Substack soon! (If you have any questions, ask away in the comments below!)

P.S. If you’re wondering, my website will remain and the On Living Well blog archive up to this point will continue to be housed there.
