The Perpetual Conversation

My favorite things in life right now are the family group chats that we have perpetually going on by text and Instagram DM. We’re all over the country, literally, yet somehow, with these dings and lines of characters on the screen, it feels like we’re at least a little bit closer. Here’s a text conversation we all had last Sunday. Enjoy

Ry: There’s a huge event in north shore right now called The Eddie. It’s named after a pro surfer who died at this bay a few years ago. There’s 60,000 people here right now and people are camping down the road like 10 miles. The biggest wave this morning was 55 feet.

Russ: That’s a big wave 😳

Russ: You watching this game Brade?

Me: Oh my gosh! I can’t imagine that, Ry!

Me: Who won the bills bangles game?

Russ: Bengals! Bills are done!

Me: Wow

Brade: Yeah I watched it! Did not expect the bills to play that bad at home

Brade: Huge wave holy

Russ: How’s your foot mom?

Me: It’s better

Ry: What happened?

Russ: Good

Jer: That’s nuts Ryan

Me: Whole foot charley horse

Me: I needed an athletic trainer

Ry: Dang

Russ: Ry, will you be able to watch the surfing?

Ry: Ya I was there this morning and we’re going again in a couple hours so I’ll take some videos

Ry: The waves are rising too so they might hit 60 ft

Me: I can’t imagine watching something like that

Ry: A couple houses got taken out

Me: Oh my gosh

Russ: 😳

Me: Who’s winning cowboys 49rs game?

Russ: I can’t imagine catching a wave that might kill you

Russ: 16-12 SF

Ry: It’s crazy how long these guys have to hold their breath when they fall

Me: So scary

Russ: How long?

Ry: Sometimes they get caught under multiple waves so sometimes like 2 minutes

Me: Wow

Ry: This shows some good wipeouts

Me: That’s cool

Russ: Those waves are massive!

Russ: Dallas miracle or no Brade?

Russ: Ry, that has to be surreal watching guys catch waves that big now that you’re surfing!

Ry: Oh ya it blows my mind. The biggest wave I’ve caught was probably 4-5ft. 😂

Russ: I’ll take the 4 footer 😂

Brade: Dak is no match for a rookie 6th rounder backup

Ry: A local lifeguard won the Eddie out of all the pro surfers here

Jer: That’s so baller

Me: Wow. That’s cool

One way or another, I’m always connected with the people I love. We get to be a part of each other’s lives, even now, thousands of miles apart. What a privilege.

P.S. Oh, the sun hat up there? It arrived. It’s huge! And completely wonderful! (How am I gonna get it to Hawaii?)
